HISTORY

This four star resort called Holiday Island has the local name Dhiffushi. Holiday Island, opened in 1994 is located in the southern tip of South Ari Atoll, which is 97km from the Airport. Holiday Island is 700m long and 140 meters wide and has beach all around with an excellent marine life around.

As soon as you arrive in Maldives at Male’ International Airport, please visit the Villa Hotels Counter. Our representatives will assist you with your onward journey to Holiday Island. If you wish to travel by speedboat, it takes 2 and ¾ hours while the trip can be made via seaplane in only 35 minutes.

Night Fishing

Just bait your hook and lower the line and wish for your big catch. We cannot guarantee your luck. Early in the evening you leave by Dhoni to one of the reefs near Holiday Island. Fishing in the early evening is not only exciting, but also gives you the chance to enjoy a romantic sunset. The Dhoni Captain will provide fishing hooks & lines during the trip.

Your barbecued fish will be served in the main restaurant on the same day.

If you want to try real fishing, rest assured that this is the best to get started, Just keep in mind that there are several elements to the enjoyment of fishing, waterman ship, knowledge of underwater knowledge, physical condition and use of correct equipment. The best time to drop your hook to catch a bigger fish is early hours of the day when fishes come across the oceans looking for their food in a very hungry mood. Different type of Sharks, blue & black Marlin, Southern Blue fin Tuna, Skip Jack & Yellow Fin Tuna, Queens land Spanish mackerel, Sail Fish, Wahoo and barracuda are among most catch of the trip. That not all! You also will be provided BBQ out of your catch.

The Dive Sites

This outside reef in front of Holiday Island and the inhabitant island Mamigilli has become renowned among divers of different nationalities during the past 3 years of Resort operation due to the regular sighting of Whale sharks, which could be estimated at approx. 250 numbers per year.

Our sensational record sighting had been 6 Whale sharks during a dive, while diving and at the surface.

During the best month we have recorded 37 Whale sharks encounter. Of course, it is to mention that we can not guarantee Whale sharks, there are periods where no Whale sharks are sighted during 7-10 days, but the true fact is that nowhere else in Maldives a better chance to sight Whale sharks had been recorded than at this particular outside reef section

From about mid December till mid April we have our "Manta –season". There is a dive site called "Mantapoint" with a cleaning station for large Manta Rays with 3-6 meter across in size.

On 99% of all dives during that period we can see the Mantas, sometimes only 5-6 of those but usually 15-20 great Mantas.

Other well-know dive sites are located towards the north-east in the channel between the islands "Dhigurah" and "Dangethi", which can be reached by dive boat within 50-60 minutes.

The probably most famous dive sport is "Kudarah Thila", which is described in most of the Dive guide books around the world, followed by "Thinfushi Thila", "Broken Rock", "Five Rocks", "Dhigurah Thila" and so on. Most of these Thilas are round headed reef-formations with different diameters, which will come up from about 30-35 meters, remaining submerged about 10-15 meter below the surface.

Most of the above Thilas can be found in the Atoll channels supplied with strong currents, providing excellent environmental conditions for corals of all kinds but specially soft corals, enormous amounts of Fish schools of may species and countless, beautiful caves to show off.

Those Thilas are real dreams for Underwater enthusiasts who wish to photograph and to film.

We provide access to over 35 dive sites, which can be reached by our efficient dive boats within 10-60 minutes.
